Hi!
Just curious if anyone reads or has read Simple Abundance, a Daybook of Comfort and Joy, by Sarah Ban Breathnach?
The book came out in 1995. So it is nothing new. The words seem as applicable today as in any time. It is packed with a daily little something to help those on the journey to find their authentic self. Some days when I read it, it is just what I need. In this busier than ever day and age I find it a comfort to have sensible, poetic and true words to start off or end the day. It is a great way to remind me how to enjoy what I have and find my true self. The self that isn't boggled down in deadlines, bills, job, and other things that only seem to bury "me" deeper. It is a reminder to enjoy the simple things such as a garden, a flower and how to celebrate a simple moment as a much as the grand moment. I haven't read each of the days of the year yet, but I can tell I am going to enjoy it. I am reading along with my book club as a side project and we enjoy sharing it together.
I also got the gratitude journal. I just wanted to post and see what others have to say on the book and other books by the author. I'd love to hear any thoughts on the book. I was able to find my beautiful copy for a dollar at a sale. I ordered the journal online for a few dollars.
I hope you have a great day.

I've read through portions of this book and did find it inspiring and thought provoking. I'm glad that you posted about this as I am going to pull it off my shelf and start reading it now that it is the start of a new year. Thanks for sharing this, it was just what I needed to refocus a bit! I hope that you keep us posted on your thoughts throughout the year.
Yes! I've had this book for about 10 years now and have read through it almost as many times.
I have this on my shelf collecting dust too. I have read parts and I find it to be very inspiring. I am glad you posted this! I am pulling my copy out too and going to try to keep with it this year. Thanks for the nice reminder!
Thanks for another good selection,
This sounds like a real little gem! I need to look into finding a copy.

PS--I just checked out your knitting blog and am so jealous of your talent. I am a new/fledgling knitter and I dream of making something bigger than a washcloth or a baby beanie!
You are going to love this book! It stays on my coffee table because it helps "me" stay centered, and because it is just a pleasure to read..very calming in a hustle/bustle kinda world. I also have the journal but haven't used it yet. One of these days....
Time for me to dig this out - read it many years ago but it's time to start it again. Thanks for the post!
This is a great book Toni. I'm so glad you introduced it to me. I'm a day behind in reading it though. That's next on my schedule.
I have never read this. I definitely think now is such a good time for a book like that. I could definitely use some nice reminders to just enjoy the simple pleasures. :)
This is so funny...I was at a thrift store a week ago and found this book for $2. I didn't have any cash on me so I decided not to buy it because I didn't want to use my debit card for a $2 purchase. Another great book for daily devotions/thoughts is "A Minute of Margin" by Richard Swenson. AWESOME wake up call to make time for what is important.
There were about three years in a row where I planned to read it every day but I failed by the second week of January. But the fourth year I actually carried through and read it the whole year, and I also kept a journal where I wrote about the process. And it was a very enjoyable experience. I'm very glad I did it and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking of trying it. I've also read several of Sarah Ban Breathnach's other books and they were really good as well.
I read it first when it came out and since then have read it many, many times. I have a hard time sticking with just one page a day and end up reading whole sections at a time. As I age or as life changes, I find it speaks differently to me each time. It is amazing how an ordinary woman could have touched such a phenominal note with other women. It is if she was plugged in to some mystic source. I keep it out all the time and think it is a classic read for women. She now lives in England in the Newton's Chapel (yes, THE Issac Newton). Victoria Magazine did a story on her in their Christmas issue several years ago. Fascinating!
Believe it or not I have never heard of these, but they sound lovley. Enjoy :)
Thank you, Toni, for posting about Simple Abundance! It has some real gems in it! And agree, the author's messages are still very much applicable, even these many years since it's first publishing.
I am planning to extol the book's "February 12" essay in my latest blog post! And I'm going to link my post to yours so any readers of mine can head to your blog if they'd like and peruse your fine reviews, as well!
Thank you for sharing yourself with me today, Toni! It has lifted my heart to blog with you!
